Madaket is a sprawling fishing village at the western end of the island reached by the winding 5 mile long Madaket Road or by its adjacent bike path.

Madaket's views are exceptional and the atmosphere here is beachy and casual. To the north and east are creeks, ponds and marshes. To the west and south, Atlantic Ocean and great beaches. Boaters and fishermen enjoy Madaket Harbor and an inlet called Hither Creek where small boats find safe moorings and a small marina.

Being the west end of the island, every sunny day in Madaket ends with a dazzling sunset over the water. It is well known that the fishing is excellent off the west end and Smiths Point is a treat for 4-wheel drivers. In summer months a tiny gocery store provides the basic, bare essentials and there is a West End restaurant providing post beach, come-as-you-are cocktails and tasty fare.
