At the easternmost end of the island, 'Sconset, as it is called by the locals, is an extraordinarily beautiful village with its own unique history.
Here, under the protection of the Sankaty Light just to the north, are the famous rose-covered cottages. Charming architecture, well-tended flower gardens and fabulous ocean views make this place absolutely irresistible. Nothing stands between the beaches at 'Sconset and the shores of Portugal except the wild Atlantic Ocean.
The village contains a small grocery store, a post office, a liquor store, three restaurants and a chapel. The wonderful old 'Sconset Casino screens movies in the summer. Tennis and golf are also nearby.
